The use of the comma can be perplexing to young students, especially in junior high. For this reason, it is important for them to have a handy reference to turn to when they are in a comma quandary. Included is a detailed explanation of six basic rules for comma usage. Each rule is explained and examples are not only given for each, the examples are explained. The three information pages are followed by a homework assignment that asks students to read 20 sentences and insert commas where they are needed. For each homework sentence, the specific rule (from the packet) they should refer to is listed. This allows students to review the rules and THEN apply the rule to the sentence. It's great when students can take control of their own learning, isn't it?
