Here are 5 Real and Nonsense Word Games that focuses on the 5 short vowels using CVC words. Directions are included. Games includes:
Short a
Short e
Short i
Short o
Short u
These work well with the Common Core Standards in Kindergarten and 1st grade:K.RFS.3 3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or most frequent sound for each consonant.
Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.

I have taught 3 years in Kindergarten and 5 years in 2nd grade. I am currently substituting in all Elementary Grades K-6 and activity classes. I completed a month like sub job in a 3rd/4th grade combined. I also did a short term in 5th grade. It was nice to have independent children!
