Many schools are moving towards the common core standards. Some districts are asking that classrooms post student friendly learning targets that align with the common core standards; the standards need to be "deconstructed" into "I can..." statements. This allows the students to really understand what they are learning and how they will know when they have learned it.
To help make it these targets accessible to the students and easy for the class to review together, I like to post my "I can..." statements on a pocket chart. I choose one main goal for each content area for the week and post it next to that content area's label. These labels make it easy for the students (and any visitors to our classroom) to know what we are learning and when we are learning about it.
