Do you think it would work for 4th graders? I often adapt other grade level material, but am wondering about the informative text in this one.

Hello, I think it would but not at the beginning of the year (that depends on your students, of course). I tested the readability level using Dale-Chall and both passages scored a 4, which is supposed to be easily understood by a 4th grade student.

To better help you make a decision, here is an example from one of the texts:

Taxes are difficult to pay. They are a large part of our earnings. Taxes are taken out of our paychecks by the government. If we were allowed to keep that money, we would be able to afford to buy the things that the government tries to provide for us. The number of different taxes is also silly.
