PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This activity has been revised. I checked it again and made some changes as well as gave it a new look. Thanks again!
Common Core Poetry for K-1st grade. This packet includes the poem "Covers" by Nikki Giovanni as well as a brief biography of her life that can be enlarged and displayed in the classroom. I have also created the poem in the form of a rebus poem that can also be enlarged as well along with the plain text poem and used during large group. Also, included is a creative writing activity for students to create their own version of the poem "Covers".

I really like this poem, but I am not sure the last line makes sense. If I am wrong, I apologize. Should the last word be asleep instead of sleep? Or maybe use the word I instead of I'm?
On  December 27, 2012Yvonne Denerson-Horne  answered:
Glass covers windows
to keep the cold away
Clouds cover the sky
to make a rainy day
Nighttime covers
all the things that creep
Blankets cover me
when I’m asleep

This is the poem. If I put sleep I apologize. I haven't looked at it yet. The above poem is how it was written by her. I copied/pasted this from the CCS website. I will correct the mistake and reload the activity. Thanks for looking out.
