Hi jrobin201, All of the CCSS writing standards from grades 6-12 divide the writing into three types: argument, informative/explanatory, and narrative. This is for the argument and informative/explanatory types of writing only. Because each grade level follows the same formula for writing, the "introduce claims/topics, develop/support claims/topics, use words to create cohesion/links, and provide concluding statement" are virtually identical. In fact, I could probably add an "S" to make it "PEELS" and include the "establish and maintain an appropriate style." See page 2 of the download to see how each fits with each letter. The example is for W.8.1., but applies for the first two writing standards in grades 6-12. Actually, it applies to grades 4 and 5, as well. They follow pretty much the exact formula. I have a link to the standards on page 2 for further help. -Tracee

I wanted to print this out, but after using up tons of ink, it turns out that this can't be copied on a normal 8x11 sheet. What's the deal?

I created it on a normal 8.5x11 page so you need to look at your page set-up and printer settings to see what you are doing wrong. Check your default settings--most people have the default as 8.5x11. You can also check to see if you accidentally did not have it scale automatically regardless the size you may have set. If you are still having problems, you can google how to change your settings for your particular computer/printer.

Tracee, when I try to download this free item, it gives me a "502 Bad Gateway" error message. Any ideas?

I'll try to see what's going on and re-upload if it's not working.

jgteach2reach - I just checked and it seems to be working. The site may have just been busy at the time. Hope it lets you download. :) -Tracee

Wow--that is really weird! I downloaded it again and it was the old version! I wonder if TpT was moving the file around from one server to a different one? At any rate, please re-download. I uploaded the new one again and HOPE it sticks for good. I've never had a file revert to an older version, but stranger things have happened. Sorry for your troubles, beckerwoman! (My maiden name is Becker. :)

UPDATED: I just re-uploaded it. Please try again. I think wonky things are going on tonight...could be high traffic-related or who knows what! The file was fine a few hours ago, then I checked for the 5th time and it was the older version. Crazy! Maybe TpT is haunted tonight??? LOL Thanks & sorry, Cora! -Tracee

Hi Lynette - please try again. I re-uploaded it and hope the new file doesn't disappear again...maybe the Halloween ghosts are tricking TpT early. LOL

You might want to try re-downloading. It's a larger file, so perhaps it did not download all the way.

I love the charts. Thanks for sharing. I am from TN and this will be our first year with Common Core Writing. What other products do you offer in this area? It would help greatly to see prompts or student samples.

Hi Veronda - I have many products (both free/priced) for common core because we had to implement it last year into our curriculum. I would tell you to do a search in my store for "common core" but the search feature is not working properly. :( What grade level are you looking for? I have mainly 6-12 and my graphic organizers for reading are my best sellers. I am working on additional writing resources, but I do have a lot for journalism (expository) writing. Let me know grade level & I can point you in the right direction. Thanks so much!

I love this but have a favor, would their be any way you could change paragraph to article? I teach a newspaper class (well 2 actually) and think this would be an awesome poster to have in my room.

Thanks, 4mulafun! I can't make any promises on when I could get around to it, but feel free to copy the text to make one for your room in the meantime. :)

Update: I decided not to update it to "article" because I do teach news writing a little differently (and use different terms) than persuasive and informational expository. Instead, I use the formula fact+transition+quote/attribution+transition. I uploaded some new journalism resources that are aligned to the Common Core. I hope that helps!
