This packet combines a study on communities (particularly community helpers) with some additional practice with drawing conclusions. :) It's just one way to "kill two birds with one stone" in a really fun, kid-friendly way.
The file contains posters/direction sheets for thirteen community helpers, and it contains cover pages for each community helper as well (to be attached to a manila folder or file folder). In addition, this file also includes community helper strips to attach to the tops of student-created posters. Students will tape the strip on upside down or face down. They will draw five pictures that are associated with their community helpers as "clues" to help their classmates draw conclusions about what community helper they must have. To confirm each conclusion, the group will flip the card over to reveal the community helper. This can be done as a gallery walk as well. It contains recording sheets that you can use to extend the lesson further. :) Happy Teaching!

This is a great product! I used it this week and the kids really enjoyed it. I had my kids label their drawings since not everyone's drawing is easy to understand. I also taped the community helper strip at the top of the poster and taped a flap over it. I plan to put the posters up on our hallway bulletin board so that everyone else at school can play the guessing game too! :)

I can hardly wait to try this with my students. I will probably provide some black-line pictures for my little ones so their pictures are a little less open to interpretation.

Absolutely LOVE this! It goes along with the Reading Street unit on community workers, as well as the first grade common core. Students use cooperative grouping, art and their inferencing skills to determine what community helper is being described.
I didn't create picture cards, because I want my kiddos to think about creating clues that will help their classmates guess their community helper. It literally took about 15 minutes for each group to do their pictures... and each group made two posters. :) I promise... it's not high-maintenance! I am glad you like it... and I'm glad to hear you'll live! Ha! Have a great week!

Thanks, Amanda. I looked over it very quickly, but once again you have a done a great job of creating an activity that is both eye-appealing and appropriate for what is being taught. I know my kiddos will enjoy completing this activity...they love gallery walks and this will be perfect.
Thanks again,
Nancy
