This unit is about community helpers. It has a variety of math and literacy learning centers. There are 123 pages in this unit. The beginning of the unit you can use a tree map to give details about what we know about community helpers. There are two emergent readers explaining what Police Officers and Fireman do, wear, their equipment and how the serve the community. Also included is a game called the Dog House where the children will decide if the words are real or nonsense. If the word is nonsense, it must go to the dog house jail. Firemen will help us learn our sight words by playing memory or putting them in a container or fire hat and having the children pull the words out and saying the words. Don't pull out the fire card or you will have to put all your cards back. What Time Is It? is another game that is included to help children match the correct time with the clock. The clocks go to the hour, 15, 30 and 45. Assessment sheets are included for this time activity. Learning Fractions? Look at the fraction cards and decide what fraction are police, what fraction are firemen? Assessment sheets are also included with this activity as a follow up. Fact Families in school have never been so easy when they are in a school house. Match the little boy and girls to the correct fact family. Have fun with this unit. I had a lot of fun creating it for you.
Lots of great ideas! Really liked how you introduced the community helpers with what they do, the tools and vehicles they use and how they contribute to the community. The real and nonsense words activity with the doghouse jail was a big hit. I liked your school houses with the number families, too. Thanks for all your hard work and making quality units-love them. THANKS!
I enjoyed the cute books and clipart. however, I would have liked more ideas for use in my literacy/math stations. It was a little easy for my kinders at this stage of the year.

Are any of your community helpers African American?
No, I am sorry. The graphics I had when I created the unit did not have any African American Helpers. There are other graphics such as schools and crayon boxes etc.
