Readers often have trouble with the text structure of compare and contrast. In this file, you'll find nine texts at multiple levels to help you support your readers as they learn how to read and understand compare and contrast text.
Texts include: Palm Trees and Pine Trees, Vernal Pool or Puddle?, Butterfly Lookalikes, Cooking in a Colonial Kitchen, Letters: Then and Now, Etiquette at the Chinese Table, Sea Gulls and Antarctic Skuas, Lentic and Lotic Waterways, and Hurricanes and Nor'easters. Eight texts include activities to help students make sense of the compare and contrast text structure, including graphic organizers, before reading activities, scaffolded summaries, and sorting activities.
Reading levels are at grades 3-6. Articles include text features such as photographs, headings, and captions. Great for test preparation and content area reading!

Another great unit on text structures! I like how you present a variety of reading level text. (Minor point: in the PowerPoint some info is cut off, like on slides 11, 17, 29 -- I think mostly on the table/chart and in a caption?; just MY computer??)

Thanks for letting me know! The PPT is fine on my computer, but I imagine that the tables are causing the formatting problems. I'm starting to transfer everything over to pptx as it seems more stable and the formatting translates better across kinds of computers. I'll change it over for my next update. :) Thanks again!
