The 20th Century was a filled with conflict, and conflict breeds music, interestingly enough. This PowerPoint surveys the major conflicts of the late 19th Century and 20th Century from Napoleon's campaign to the Cold War and the genocide in Rwanda through music. Students listen to the music and understand better the effects of war on culture and individuals. The songs themselves are not included, but the titles are given and they are easy to come across.

There are 10 slides. The music itself is not included, but every song is available at iTunes and other sites.

I have been teaching in the public schools for eight years. Prior to that I taught ESL for one year at the university level. During my public school years I taught 8th grade language arts for two years, and for the remaining six I have taught 6th grade Gifted and Talented Humanities. In addition, I have worked as a curriculum writer for the district-wide Science and Technology Gifted and Talented program for three consecutive years.
