Additionally, there are two graphic organizers and three practice worksheets. The PowerPoint explains the concepts and follows with several multiple choice scenarios that you can use before assigning the worksheets.

These worksheets can be used in a few ways; in the beginning of the year, I generally have the students do a few activities to familiarize themselves with their textbooks. They can do this by finding words or phrases that they find to be difficult or unfamiliar. You can start this activity by teaching them about context clues and how they will apply them to their reading this year, then pass out the worksheets and have students work individually, or in pairs to find examples. I like to assign certain segments of reading that I think might be especially challenging.
You can use the worksheets as a pre-reading activity for a reading that might be difficult to understand. In my U.S. history class, I have them use the worksheets or graphic organizers to decipher tricky words before we read a primary source.

In a pinch, you can also keep them handy for emergency sub plans.
