Here's a Reading PowerPoint presentation and student companion guide about My Side of the Mountain, by Jean Craighead George. The activities focus on context clues and story conflict. The goal of the lesson is to explore how Sam Gribley's environment and interactions with people affect his ability to survive in the forests of the Catskill Mountains. Students also have the opportunity to practice using context clues to define unfamiliar words.
The package includes a PowerPoint (saved as Microsoft 97/2003) and the Teacher Companion (PDF format). The Teacher Companion includes 21 student pages and a 10-page answer key (34 pages in total). The student pages include vocabulary and chapter questions. The PowerPoint includes teacher notes. You can print out the notes by choosing that option when printing the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint can be converted for use on Promethean Interactive Whiteboards and it can be used on Smartboards.
