If you haven't used PREZI before, it's a web-based presentation software that allows you to created zooming productions. Instead of clicking from slide to slide like in PowerPoint, PREZI uses one large canvas and then you zoom in on individual photos, videos, or pieces of information.
In this PREZI lesson plan, students will study the definition and origins of dystopian literature, how fictional dystopias are usually created, as well as common themes and story elements in dystopian fiction.

I really liked this. I've used it twice. The info is great, the examples engaging. My only disappointment is a handful of spelling/punctuation/typo type problems which diminishes the impact. My students LOVE to point out errors. I don't think it is possible, but even if it is, I don't know how to edit a prezi.

Your Prezi is absolutely amazing! I am starting a Dystopian Unit for the first time with my 6th graders. I plan on forming literature circles and will be using several of the books in your presentation. I can use this to not only introduce what Dypstopia is, but also to introduce the different books! That's too bad that they hated "Brave New World." It's funny how we take things like that a little personally. I didn't write Hunger Games (I wish!), but I still felt a little personally offended when a couple of students said they didn't like it. But I'm glad the Prezi could help out.

I really cannot wait to share this with my 8th graders, who will begin reading The Giver at the end of the quarter. Though I have heard of prezis, this is the first one that I have really seen "behind the scenes" and I think it is so beautifully comprehensive! Though I do wonder about whether I will be able to show the entirety of this presentation, I still think it will be fun to show the students--especially with its non-linear and highly visually engaging format!

Thanks for this great resource! I had the same problem as Askewr so just used the link you provided. I did unzip the whole file, but when Flash tried to open the Prezi, it kept coming up with an error message.

Hey Arik-- I am once again using one of your fabulous "inventions". I am beginning a dystopian lit. unit and want to use your prezi presentation and it is not working. Are there any special steps that I should be following? I am going to teach Uglies and Life as we knew it.... our county won't allow Hunger Games--you are so lucky!

The only thing I can think is maybe it's not working because you haven't unzipped the download folder yet. It comes in a compressed "zip" file, and you can't access the Prezi without extracting the files. On a PC, this is easy: just right click on the zipped file folder and click "Extract all."
If this doesn't work, or if you already unzipped the file, try just visiting the presentation on the web here:

Prezi is a-mazing! This has been exactly what I have been presently but with significantly less panache than you terrific presentation.
However, the PDF's of the handouts are missing the proper fonts. I think I may have screwed something up on the download and though I have tried to re-download the zip file to get the fonts folder back, I am struggling. I am a Mac user and I originally moved the contents of your Fonts in the zip into my Fonts on the hard drive but had to move them back once I saw they were in the Prezi format. Can you tell me a) what font you used so I can move it back into your folder and out of my Fonts folder? b) how I can access your completed handouts, fonts included?

Do you have FLASH player installed? Prezi requires Flash to run. And it doesn't count if you usually use Flash through Google Chrome. Just do a quick Google search for Flash and download and install the most recent version.
If you DO have Flash, maybe it's just not unzipping correctly. Right click on the folder and click "Extract All." That should put it in a folder you can access.
