Teaching Dead Poets' Society is a perfect way to set a tone for the entire year as well as teach elements of poetry. This 2 week study was used to introduce poetry, literature circles and created a classroom community. We constantly referred to these skills all year long! This unit plan includes small group work, study guide for viewing the movie, poetry lists, and a final project and test to pull everything together!

After teaching seventh and eighth grade Language Arts at a private school, I found it necessary to stay home with my children. Not yet ready to return to the classroom, but aching to stay atop trends in the field, I began volunteering at our local Alternative High School. I loved working with the students one-on-one and individualizing instruction. I was soon offered a position to help begin a preschool developing a classroom for 3 and 4 year olds. Through this, I am beginning to fully understand how important patience and finding ways to motivate and challenge students can be in impacting student learning!
