Help your students understand that decimals are a part of a whole with this fun performace task! Students create a "Decimal Garden" by choosing what types of vegetables they want and shade in their model to match. They then create a key for their model, label their model in decimals, create an addition sentence to prove their model, and then explain their understanding of the standard.

I've taught 14 years teaching grades 3-5 and Early Intervention Program in Public School. I currently teach 3rd grade and am also working part time for my state's Department of Education...specifically projects that involve the new Common Core Curriculum.
