Knowing how to use analogy with onset and rime to quickly decode words is essential to success in early reading. This game set will provide practice in recognizing common short vowel and long vowel spelling patterns, and in applying the onset/rime principle with those patterns.
In no time at all, you'll hear your young readers saying, "I know a word like that!"
This set contains:
* Word cards for 12 key words in 12 different short vowel spelling patterns (one set in black text, one set with the rime highlighted in red)
* 6 different game boards with words that contain the same spelling patterns as the cards * Word cards for 12 key words in 12 different long vowel spelling patterns (one set in black text, one set with the rime highlighted in blue)
* 6 different game boards with words that contain the same spelling patterns as the cards
Directions are provided for small instructional group use and for a literacy center game.

I've been teaching for 26 years, with the majority of my experience being in first grade. I taught Reading Recovery for 5 years, and that experience has impacted every day of my teaching since! For the past 10 years, I've enjoyed teaching a first grade literacy intervention class.
