After watching a movie with my students that misused the word Democracy, I needed a lesson that would help them understand the difference between a Democracy and a Republic. I came up with this idea to drive the difference home. I used it with both younger students and high schoolers. With the younger students we voted on "Class Rules". With the high school students we voted on several proposed Bill ideas -- after having a limited time of debate on each. It was very effective to show the difference in both settings.
