This list of describing words will help to create a word wall, supplemental writing folder for students, or writing bulleting board. Each of the pages contain two columns of words with a regularly used word as a heading followed by a list of 12 words that can be used in place of it. Copy, cut apart or shrink and copy to build a personal word wall for each student. These word lists can be used in place of a thesaurus as part of a support tool for any writing assignment.

This has worked out to be so helpful. It is a great tool to send your kidos too when they are struggling for a word that works. Just right words help students to broaden their vocabulary while they learn to use them in their writing. It is fun to use them in a word of the day context as a way to build familiarity

Thanks, they do come in handy. I cut them apart, mount on colored construction paper and laminate then hang them on my writing wall. It is nice to be able to tell my students to go look for words on the wall.

Jennifer Zoglman is a certified teacher in the areas of elementary and special education with a M.S. in Educational Leadership and B.A. in Special Education. As a special educator since 1998, she has worked extensively with children with various learning abilities. Jessica Murphy is an experienced primary grade teacher with a M.A. in Educational Leadership. Through her extensive experience with differentiation and data-driven instruction, she created a collaborative reading intervention model and manual. Tina Rataj-Berard graduated from Edgewood College in Madison WI with a double major in Studio Art and Graphic Design. She has been working professionally as a Designer since 2003 and currently works full time as an Art Director for an Out of Home Media Company.
