PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This writing lesson fits in nicely with a unit on matter and physical properties. It helps students to write a better description or observation.
This set includes the following pages:

Page 1: A description of the sequence I use when teaching how to write a scientific observation.
Page 2-3: Student webs to record words that describe texture and appearance.
Page 4: A prewriting graphic organizer to record the physical properties of an object the student is given.
Page 5: A drafting sheet for students to write their rough draft using their ideas from the prewriting sheet.
Page 6: A page of revising notes that students glue into their writing folders when I teach this minilesson. Students will revise their own drafts by combining two short sentences into a longer one.
Page 7: A follow up literacy station idea. I read The Important Thing book prior to this activity and we notice the pattern. I leave some interesting items (little gourds, pinecones, etc.) at the station and students write a description.
Page 8: A rubric to use when assessing students on their writing.
