This is a set of 3 stories that I have used in my math class when discussing logic and reasoning. The students are presented with 3 cases that they must solve and must list possible solutions to the mysteries based on clues they find. There is no "correct answer" and my students enjoy having a class discussion on what they think happened and being able to prove it just by what they are given, they learn not to "assume" anything. This activity could also be used in a language arts class.

Help
I have been teaching 7th and 8th graders mathematics in a public school setting since 1999. I also take part teaching incoming 8th graders in a "math institute" each summer.
