Seller's Description

In this lab we will be determining the osmolarity of potato cells. Osmolarity describes the solute concentration and is expressed as molarity. Molarity is the number of moles of solute per liter of solution. You will place slices of potato in sucrose solutions of known molarity. The objective is to find the molarity at which the weight of the potato tissue does not change. This molarity is an indirect measure of the osmolarity of the potato.

The lab is a great one to do when teaching cellular transport, active and passive transport, and different types of solutions. I love this lab because it always works!

Materials: 1 potato, 7 beakers, masking tape, forceps, Balance, sucrose solutions, distilled water, ruler, calculator.

Your 8 page download will include Title, Introduction, Procedure, Student Data Pages, Answers, and Teacher Preparation Notes. Please feel free to look at the free 3 page preview.
