On this worksheet, students begin with a review of the parts of speech. Students then read a diamante to determine the pattern of the poem and other characteristics. Next, students work with a group to brainstorm words that will be combined with the rest of the class to create a diamante poem about rain. Finally, students can write their own diamante on a template. An answer key is included.
April is Poetry Month, but also great for any time of the year! Could also be used when reinforcing antonyms or parts of speech.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I have taught 4th grade in Maryland for 8 years and 5th grade for 1 year. For manyyears, I was departmentalized teaching only Reading/Language Arts and Science. I actually enjoyed teaching grammar and learning about/using the 6+1 Trait method for writing. I also spent 2 years as a science resource teacher working with teachers and students in all elementary grades.
