Your welcome:) Now that you have the Diego Rivera lesson, you can also use it next year before Cinco de Mayo. I try to use it w/ my students and talk a bit about Mexico during the beginning of May.

Oh you made my day! Yes, I've noticed throughout the years how proud my hispanic students get when we do this lesson and I play up the part of Diego being the brilliant Mexican artist that he was. And it's so fabulous to sometimes have non-English speaking students in the classes I teach & see them get just as much out of an art lesson as the kids who do speak English.

I really tried to give information that the kids would find interesting and make them appreciate the effort that Diego Rivera put into his art to make it more meaningful.

Your very welcome! Hope your students are proud of their flower baskets and learn more about balancing their artwork. It's surprising how many kids age 9 and up still put their subjects lopsided on a paper and don't pay attention to one side having way more shapes or colors than the other.

I began my teaching career in 1989, as a 5th grade teacher. Since then, I have taught numerous other grades. Between teaching in the classroom, I took a 4 year hiatus at which time I was the Education Director for the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center. This was a dream job, but the fundraising aspects were stressful for me. I then returned to teaching, and a turn of events brought me to my true calling and I became an art teacher.
