This is a differentiated activity that I created at a workshop based on Carol O'Connor's philosophy of differentiation. This lesson was actually borrowed by the presenter to be featured in further workshops around the country. Students complete various life-based time activities. This is a think dot strategy and is tiered for higher students and lower students. The higher the dot, the more complex the activity. Students would complete it in about a week.
Life skills time activities include: using the newspaper to find show times and elapsed time, creating a daily schedule, finding the elapsed time of daily situations, taking a stand on an issue, reporting the meaning of words
This 14 page plan/sheets will take you about 3-5 days to complete. I limited my students to completing no more than 2 lessons/day and had file folder activities when they were finished. I set up all the stations around the room to keep these activities seperate. It went VERY well and the students LOVED doing these activities!!
Everything you need (except the newspapers!!) are here for you!
I taught 4.5 years in a middle school and have taught for 1.5 years with Prek-1st. Currently I'm teaching 5th graders in a learning center program. I'm mainly taught students with special needs.
