Our English Language Learners are often lacking basic English vocabulary words. The lack of these words often leads to difficulty in reading, writing and general communication. This vocabulary packet is one of a set of vocabulary packets designed to help give English Language Learners the vocabulary they need to be successful in the classroom.
Since not all English Language Learners are at the same level, this packet has 4 different levels (basic, developing, intermediate and advanced) to allow teachers to meet the needs of all of their students. While working with this packet, students learn, review, write with and play with, new vocabulary words. Each level also includes a cloze word assessment. Use this packet as a small mini lesson, or the basis of all of your ELL instruction, either way it will enhance the vocabulary of your English Language Learners.
This packet is based around Countries Around the World. An important skill for English Language Learners that is often overlooked is introducing themselves and describing others by country of origin. For this packet, level 1 works on saying "I am from xxx. I am xxx." Level 2 works on saying "He or she is from xxx. He or she is xxx." Level 3 works on saying "The family is from xxx. They are xxx." and Level 4 works on saying "The boys are from xxx. They are xxx." In addition to the verb tenses increasing with difficulty, the countries also increase in difficulty throughout the levels. In total, there are 40 different countries represented in this packet.
You can also find this packet in my
All About Me set , which includes all of the vocabulary that ESL students need to introduce and talk about themselves. Included in this set is
body parts ,
emotions ,
family,
clothing , and
heritage .
This is one of a series of
