Doubles are some of the most important facts to memorize. Fortunately, they are also often the easiest for students. Doubles occur all around us in real life, for example our fingers and toes are doubles (5 + 5), egg cartons are arranged in doubles (6 + 6), and the wheels on a vehicle are arranged in doubles (2 + 2).
When students know their doubles, they are more easily able to use mental math to calculate near doubles.
This unit includes everything you need to teach the mental math strategy of 'doubles,' including independent/partner based learning activities, a math center, whole-class kinesthetic learning activities and much more! Not only will students work with doubles equations such as 4+4 and 6+6, but they will also learn how to use the doubles strategy for addends that differ by two such as 5+7 and 2+4. Please see the free preview for a full product description.
Thank you, you have saved me tons of time and inspired further creativity. Very much appreciated.

I appreciate the many pages of this site...some pages are redundit and would of liked to see more games/practice sheets using doubles. Also, subtracting doubles would of been good for this site as well.
Hi there! Yes, there is redundancy, and this is absolutely intentional! In order to achieve mastery, students need to practice, practice and practice some more, in many different ways. As far as the subtraction goes, this is only an addition unit. I do, however also have a mental math subtraction unit on using doubles that you can find in my TpT store if you are interested.
This being said, I do want every customer to be 100% satisfied and if you feel that this resource did not meet your needs, please email me at shelley_gray_@hotmail.com and we will work something out.
Thanks so much,
Shelley

Hi Amy. I really don't know why this is happening for some people. I am going to keep it free through tomorrow just because of the problems. However, I have also uploaded it to Dropbox and will keep it there for a couple of days. Could you try downloading from there and let me know if you are able to get it?

I am unable to download the freebie. It is saying I am not authorized. ? Looks great, if I can get it. I am also looking at some of your others. You have great stuff! :)
Not authorized?? That is very strange. I am going to send a ticket to TpT support. Keep trying, and let me know if you still can't get it in the next couple of hours.

I would like to know if your Mental Math Strategy Units also have practice sheets or assessment sheets for each specific mental math skill and if so, about how many are there?
Hi there! Yes, each strategy unit comes with a range of activities including independent practice sheets, partner work, games, centers, etc. I have not included a specific assessment component, but any of the practice sheets can be used as assessment. I also like to assess by observing students while they complete the math center activities. Each strategy unit is 40+ pages long. If you are thinking about purchasing them, be sure to consider purchasing as a package, rather than individually, as it will get you 6 units for the price of 5. Here is the link to the complete addition collection: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Mental-Math-Strategy-Units-the-Complete-Addition-Collection. From there you will be able to see a link to the complete subtraction collection. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
