Down with Downtime: K-5 Reading

You finished the lesson plans, but you still have time left before the next activity. Now what? Downtime is the enemy of teachers everywhere. These activities will help you say Down with Downtime and are intended for teachers and subs who have completed the lesson plans for the day in a given subject, but still have at least 10-15 minutes left.

Down with Downtime activities are broken down by topic based on the Common Core State Standards for Reading, but not grade level. The grade levels that include the standards are in the titles on each page. Please, use your judgement for what is appropriate for your students. And many of them focus on Higher Order Thinking Skills.

In no way is this intended to be an exhaustive list of activities. My hope is that you can find something useful when you need it. And that the activities can inspire you to create some of your own. This is what I have left blanks at the end of each section.

Used in conjunction with lesson plans, whether they are Emergency Lesson Plans, Just Add Paper plans, or curriculum plans, these activities will prepare you to handle any classroom downtime and turn you into Super Sub.
