This is a two page quiz on Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story, "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment." The work itself is short and serves well as an anticipatory reading leading up to novel study of a futuristic nature. (See my postings relative to Orwell's novel, 1984.)
"Dr. Heidegger's Experiment" is also an excellent example of the Romantic elements of American literature. In teaching Romanticism to my students, I often have them read "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment," then show them the film of "Rappaccini's Daughter," so they can juxtapose the written and the visual word as represented by two works of the same author.
A KEY to the quiz is included.
