Are you looking for fun, engaging literacy center activities that help your students become better readers? Here is one file that might help!!
This file uses students' natural interest in dragons, castles, princesses and knights to get them engaged in important practice with reading sight words!!
In this literacy game, students race to save the princess from the dragons. Students choose a card from a pile. If the card has a word, students read the word. If they read it correctly, they add the card to their castle.
If they choose a knight card, they return 1 or 2 cards to the pile, according to what is written on the card. When someone finds the princess card, the game is over!! All players count their cards and the person with the most cards wins!!
This game includes everything you need to use it in the classroom tomorrow; there are
game boards, game directions for students, word cards, and knight and princess cards.
In addition to the literacy center game, there are other resources included in this file to help your students learn the first 50 Fry sight words. There are student flash cards (both color and black-and-white versions). There are also student award certificates for reading sight words (color and black-and-white; and both quarter-page or full-page)
I hope this game and accompanying resources will help your students become "on fire for reading sight words"!! I also have a PowerPoint with a dragon theme to practice these same words in a whole group setting.
I am so excited for my kindergarteners to play this game! It is adorable and I think they will love it! Thank you!
