This packet was designed to use the book, Duck for President for a week long celebration of election or during President's Day!
There are 5 comprehension/response activities, including character traits, cause and effect, story map, favorite part of the story response and a retelling.
There are various writing activities to complete as well---such as can, has, is maps for Farmer Brown and Duck; Webbing, writing and drawing a campaign poster for either/or Duck or Farmer Brown for president; Venn diagram to compare the 2; webbing, writing and drawing a campaign poster for why each student should be president.
There are also 3 activities to review/teach proper nouns, and also vocabulary cards for important presidential election words.
I have included a ballot to vote for Duck or Farmer Brown for president and a recording sheet to tally, graph and analyze the results.
Everything is aligned to the Common Core Standards for first grade.
****NEWLY ADDED!! I just added 4 Essential Question posters that address the main skills taught in this packet! First Grade CCSS's are also listed on the page.

Thank you for sharing. I am so excited to start this unit with my 1st and 2nd grade ELL students. The graphic organizers are very helpful! They will learn proper nouns, character traits, comparing characters, persuasive writing, adjectives, cause and effect all while having fun!

This unit is great. I used it with my kindergarteners because "Duck for President" was something to read as it was listed in our standards, but it was too difficult for them. I had to do some tweaking to better suit my kids. All in all though the unit is VERY thorough!!
I love this unit but I am very frustrated with the overall ability to print this unit. After lots of time it is apparent that on page 17 the printing ability stops. I did contact tech support and was told that the problem is not with my computer or printer. Please email me a copy of this unit so that I may print it out. amy.gorum@uintah.net
I'm sorry you are having issues. When I just downloaded the product from TPT and printed, I was able to print everything, with no problems. Please contact me (or any seller) in the ask a question tab for things like this in the future. Thank you. I'll send you the pages you can't print when I have a break today at school. Please make sure you are printing from adobe and you may want to change your settings to "print as image" in the advance tab of the print screen. It speeds up printing. (But, I'm sure you were already told that by TPT) :)
I'm loving your units! My students and I had a blast with these activities. Can't wait to see more of your work!

I would like to be able to use this on my interwrite board, however it is sideways and ai am unble to turn without a password. Could you please provide the password.
Thanks,
Sue
I'm sorry that I am not able to share the password. If I did I would be breaking the terms of use for the clipart and would be in trouble. Might I suggest that you scan copies to yourself and you could bring it up on the interactive board? I know this is what I have done in the past from other things I have purchased on TPT.
Ask Rulin' the Roost a question. They will receive an automated email and will return to answer you as soon as possible.

I have been teaching since 2001. The first 2 years I spent teaching full day kindergarten. Since then I have been teaching wonderful little 6-7 year olds in first grade!
