Beloved tales, including several Caldecott Medal winners, are the basis for activities to improve reading and writing skills and to encourage critical and creative thinking. Each unit begins with a series of discussion questions based on Bloom's Taxonomy. Following these questions are project ideas developed to encourage creative thinking and writing. The books used are The Legend of the Bluebonnet, Arrow to the Sun, The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, Strega Nona, Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, Anansi the Spider, Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears, Lon Po Po, Once a Mouse and The Talking Eggs.
