Makes life easier. Did require a lot of photocopying but once that was done, I just created a sub file, told my co-teacher where it was located so it will be ready for a sub in an emergency. It will be interesting to see how it goes when in the time of need. Thanks.
On  January 5, 2013Mack Lewis answered:
Thank you. Yes, it does require some photocopying. The challenge of creating emergency sub plans is that we cannot assume the substitute has access to anything specific. Consequently, we have to provide everything we expect kids to use. What we hear most teachers are doing is just what you've done: photocopy everything (or even better, have an assistant do it) and then create a file folder so that it's ready to go for that emergency absence. Let me know how it goes once you've used it. Thanks again.

Was hoping these would be Emergency plans that would not need so much prep time. It requires a lot of copies to be made for classroom use. I'm not sure a sub could follow these easily.
On  September 9, 2012Mack Lewis answered:
You're not the first person to make this comment, so we're working on simplifying them. The challenge of creating generic sub-plans is that you cannot assume the departing teacher has any materials. Thus, we endeavor to provide everything necessary for more than a full-day absence. The downside is a lot of copying. What most folks do is have their ed assistant or production staff photocopy the pages in advance (using the Quick Start Guide) and place them all in a file folder. That way when they're going to be absent, they're not counting on the sub to manage all that printing. Thanks.

Unfortunately, these plans require more work on the part of the sub than the subs are willing to do. However, I will use them myself.
On  September 9, 2012Mack Lewis answered:
The challenge when creating these things is that we can't assume the regular teacher has any specific materials. Therefore, we have to provide everything. The downside, of course, is all that photocopying. What most people do is have their ed assistant or production staff copy all the materials in advance (using the Quick Start Guide) and drop them in a file folder. That way the sub isn't expected to do all that copying. They'll just open the file folder and have everything they need right there.

Product Questions & Answers

n/a
On  November 11, 2013,  Buyer asked:
Hi,
My students don't do Mean until the end of the year, and we don't have calculators. Do you have any other math plans that I could substitute in?
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  November 11, 2013Mack Lewis answered:
Thanks for the question.

Do you also have my "Mean Dice" activity? It's the same thing but it includes mode, median, and range. You could leave notes for your sub to ignore finding mean and instead focus on the other concepts. If you e-mail me at lewis@jeffnet.org, I'll forward it to you. You might also consider letting your students go ahead and explore mean during that sub day. It may set them up for extra success later in the year.

The idea behind EZSubPlans is that, though not necessarily in sequence for anyone's individual calendar, they will fit grade level standards. You can be absent knowing you're students won't be stumbling through your required content (requiring you to reteach it later) but will still be doing something academically valid.

Best wishes!

On  July 17, 2010,  Buyer asked:
Do you have more than one day per grade?
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  July 18, 2010Mack Lewis answered:
We plan to have Day 2 for each of the current grades done by September 1, and we also hope to have Day 1 for blended classrooms done soon as well. Our goal is to eventually have three days for all elementary grades.
