After reading The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and other information about the Declaration of Independence and Revolutionary War, my students were wanting to write their own poems about that time. Extending the curriculum from our history book, I decided to teach students about chain poetry (starting with one or two lines about a topic, and then connecting it to your own life and what it reminds you of or how it makes you feel). We took it a step further as we decorated the final draft to look like aged artifacts. The kids LOVED it and they made great classroom decorations!

Help
I have had experience in K-5 grade, but have taught 5th grade for two years. I am teaching at an alternative/magnet program where we provide an electives program for 1st through 5th grade, and because of this, I teach classes with all grades mixed together in the afternoons.
