This set of 5 scripts written by Sue Russell can be read by a group (of 6), keeping the same characters throughout or as a class of 30 or 25, in groups of 6 speakers. It can thus be easily adapted into a class play.
1. Colonial homes
2. Weaving and spinning
3. Candle and soap making
4. Recreation
5. Religion (including education and punishment)
The number of speakers in this play can be either:
1. 6 - the same characters (Playwright, Mother, Father, Son, Daughter and Grandma) used through all 5 scripts;
or
2. 30 - a different family used each time (i.e. different names), and playwright likewise changed; or
3. 25 - 5 different families used again, but the teacher taking on the role of playwright each time.
The playwright acts as narrator throughout the play.
5 scripts:
1. Colonial homes
2. Weaving and spinning
3. Candle and soap making
4. Recreation
5. Religion (Education and Punishment)
Each ‘part’ begins the same way with the playwright in bed, asleep. He is then joined by the characters he has used in his own play, that day. These characters can appear either ‘physically’ at the end of his bed, or just as characters in his dream.
For list of speakers, see Preview.
Also available half price this month: The Mayflower and Sacagawea plays.

Help
I taught in the U.K. for 15 years - temporary and permanent positions plus supply/substitute teaching. I taught all year groups at primary/elementary level and have done some substitute teaching since arriving in the USA. My degree was in History so I always particularly enjoyed teaching this subject, and creating class plays/assemblies around what I was teaching in the classroom - whether it be Ancient Egyptians or King Henry VIII and his Six Wives!
