This is a good in-class assignment that focuses on language development while requiring persistence and focus on the part of individual students. After reading any chapter of any book or any short story, pass this worksheet out and give the class thirty minutes to complete as much as possible. They will look for individual words in the chapter/selection that fit criteria such as "the most difficult word to pronounce" or "the longest word." The answers will be unique for each text and you can even make a competition out of it by having them work against other students or the class. You do not need an answer key, because they create it for you through their work. This is also a solid activity to leave for a substitute teacher or when you just need some quiet time in the classroom.

Good but limited use for me. It definitely gets students tuned in to the vocabulary side of reading, but kinda' distracts them from the story. Great to use with Frindle since it has a theme of making us new words and the dictionary.
