Skill: Elapsed Time, Interval Time, Problem Solving
Strategy: Timeline Rulers, Time on Demand

Elapsed Time Rules Includes...
Teach your students to solve elapsed time word problems with an elapse time ruler or timeline. This is a fantastic visual for students who need help with counting forward and backwards by increments of 1 hour, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes.
Students are asked to explain their thinking in a separate space. An example is provided.
Common Core standards emphasize the need for students to show both the why and how for problem solving. This activity does both through modeling and the explanation spaces provided for each problem.
INCLUDED:
10 word problems
2 Challenge problems
1 page of elapsed time rulers to model or ue in journals
Answer Key provided
Time on Demand Includes....
Common Core Math standards for 3rd require students to tell time to the minute and be able to calculate elapsed time or interval time.
Time On Demand is an activity that requires students to tell the current time and be able to calculate time intervals to the nearest minute.
As the teacher you can ask students to fill in one of these cards at ANY time of the day. Thus being called "Time on Demand".
Use in a math journal or simply keep it in a folder. It is up to you how you best implement it.
They key is to keep students on their toes with time.

I've taught 14 years teaching grades 3-5 and Early Intervention Program in Public School. I currently teach 3rd grade and am also working part time for my state's Department of Education...specifically projects that involve the new Common Core Curriculum.
