This 50 page thematic unit contains THE SAME LESSON PLANS AND REPRODUCIBLES as found in my Election Process: Class Mascot Theme but without the class mascot portion of the unit (if you have previously purchased that product, please do not purchase this file as you already have everything in this file!)

As an added bonus, this file also contains my best-selling Branches of Government Tree Activity , a hands-on activity to teach students about the 3 branches of the U.S. government - a $2.50 value at no extra cost!

The election unit is designed to make the election process real and relevant to elementary aged children. The unit is designed to last 3 weeks. Detailed lesson plans are included. The election file includes 12 pages of detailed daily lesson plans and ideas, 29 pages of reproducible student activity sheets, an extensive references/resource list, and answer keys.

Government and election concepts and vocabulary will be taught, and students will learn about the presidential election process.

Key concepts include:
1) The process for nominating presidential candidates
2) Qualifications and requirements for becoming President of the United States
3) Duties of the President of the United States
4) Qualifications for voting in U.S. presidential elections
5) Campaigning for President, including an overview of the major presidential candidates and their stances on important issues
6) Elections vocabulary and terminology

The purpose of this unit is to allow intermediate aged students to participate in the election process in a manner that is engaging, makes sense to them, and is relevant to their everyday lives. By introducing students to the candidates, issues, and processes involved in electing a president, students gain skills necessary to be a good citizen later in life. They also develop key critical thinking and evaluative skills - concepts that are vital to their successes as 21st century learners. by Rebecca Bettis

Do the lessons/activities include Content Expectations or Standards?

Hi! Thanks for your question! Each of the main units or components of the lesson plans begins with student objectives, such as "Students will demonstrate an understanding of the terms qualifications and duties" or "Students will demonstrate an understanding of the requirements for voting in US elections". Each lesson or activity does not, however, list specific expectations or standards correlated to the CCSS or other specific state standards. Although these correlations can be made, they are not explicitly spelled out in the product. I hope this answers your question!
