A 5 page, 5 part reader's theatre script for the fairy tale the Elves and the Shoemaker. The script is written with primary students in mind and contains parts for Emergent to Transitional readers as follows:
o High Emergent (roughly DRA 4-8): Elf #2
o Transitional (roughly DRA 10-12): Elf #1
o High Transitional (roughly DRA 14-18): Shoemaker, Wife Narrator
This allows children to work with classmates who may not be in their reading groups and makes for a nice change. It also allows fluent readers to model good reading habits and lets struggling readers participate in reading "meatier" text.
There are 6 copies of the script, a master plus 5 more which have the individual part highlighted. This allows the teacher to just hand out the scripts without needing any further prep work. If you need more copies or would like to combine/divide parts or only have access to a black and white photocopier, the master is provided.
Also includes full page, color images of each character which students can use to make hats or neck signs to identify their part to the audience.

I have been teaching for 20 years in a variety of school systems. 20 years ago I spent 4 years teaching ESL overseas and upon my return home to Canada I then spent 4 years teaching French Immersion in K, 1, 4, 5. This was followed by teaching Grade 1 for 5 years at an international school Japan with a large and varied ESL population mixed in with native speakers of English. I am now back in Canada teaching Grade 1 French Immersion again.
