This is a teacher-friendly set designed to make three+ days of absence from middle school math class a breeze for you to plan AND engaging for your Grade 6-9 students! These activities can be used individually or in groups, and they require no special effort or skill for a sub to implement. You can be sure your middle school students will be busy working on age-appropriate math activities while you are gone, and isn’t that what we all want as teachers when planning an absence?
The bundle includes twelve shorter problem-solving math tasks that can used as is (with two tasks on each photocopiable page), or cut up and used individually as task cards. Each task takes between 5-15 minutes (depending on student ability) and as a set they are designed to fill up two of the 45-minute class periods with very little or no teacher support.
For the third day, there are two options. One is a full 45-minute+ activity using cut-out tangrams to spell the letters of the alphabet. The other is comprised of two shorter lessons, one on "word/math" vocabulary and other a "signs and lines" problem solving activity.
Please look at the preview to see a sample from this engaging resource! My advice would be to leave this collection behind and ready-to-go in an emergency sub folder for any unexpected absence.
Answer sheets are provided for the twelve shorter math tasks and the "signs and lines" activity. The tangram and word/math vocabulary on are creative and open-ended lessons with many possible answers.
