Love the book by Robert Munsch? Then you’ll love our plan, “Smelly Socks”! This “In A Pinch” emergency sub plan is ready when you're not, making your emergency sub planning a breeze! This one full day kindergarten plan provides engaging activities in Integrated Language Arts and Mathematics that your students will enjoy, and a substitute will appreciate during your absence. Activities are simply inserted into your regular day schedule as defined in your general information folder for a substitute teacher. If time allows, some classroom teachers prefer to prepare (copy) and organize the materials the sub will be using. We recommend the sub replace and prepare all items used before the end of their duty day so the plan is ready for future use.
This “Smelly Socks” sub plan contains 18 slides and includes a 4 page detailed lesson plan with easy to follow instructions for each activity. The activities are interactive and develop good listening skills. In the area of Integrated Language Arts the lesson begins with a read aloud. Children are questioning, predicting, and building vocabulary as they listen to and make meaning of the story. Specific and engaging questions are provided. Following the read aloud is a writing extension that allows students to make a text-to-self connection using picture and words. (This is optional class book material.) The mini book “My Favorite Socks” will offer practice in highlighting key vocabulary, one-to-one word correspondence, designing patterns to match the pattern words, and read-to-self skills. Children will enjoy the Word Search Puzzle that uses rhyming skills.
In the area of Math the class will complete a fun graphing activity, followed by discussion that analyzes and compares data. They will practice number sense by matching dots on a dice with written numerals, using a color key, identifying matching pairs, and working with symmetry. Children will enjoy a thumbs up/thumbs down picture sorting game, then complete an independent follow-up activity. Finally, suggested math extensions include counting by two’s and playing the game, “If A Fox Wore Socks”.
Throughout their day, your students are following the Core Standards and will not miss a beat with your absence!
Quotes from colleagues regarding this “In A Pinch” emergency sub plan:
“Love it!!! No more middle of the night panics!!!“
“I think my sub loved this as much as my kids! Thanks!”
“I am so thankful that I found your lesson plan. It's so much better
than trying to come up with a whole day's plan for when I’m going
to be out.”
What a fantastic idea! Sub plans is the one thing I HATE about my job! Although, I don't think there is enough to fill my whole day, it definitely makes my planning A LOT easier on a last minute sick call.
The only disappointment was I actually got charged $12 instead of $8. Every time I would try to download it would bring me to a blank white page like it was frozen. If I clicked download again it would load properly only my cart would show me purchasing one @ $8 and one at $4. ????
Definitely contact TPT Customer Support help link. This is a technical problem, and you should not have been charged $12.00! Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

In A Pinch Sub Plans aim to make a teacher's life less stressful in the event of an absence. If we can also make life a little easier in the process, hooray to that!
We've ALL been there! And we are in fact expanding...soon to come (Fall 2012) we will have six full-day plans for grade 1 on TPT. Please pass on the word to any first grade teachers you know!
I was a little worried about spending this much money on a resource but it really paid off the first time I was forced to use it! I am planning on buying more resources from this seller because they will come in handy and when you least expect it!!! Thanks for sharing such an awesome resource!
