Be prepared ahead of time for those unexpected absences. This comprehensive product should be all you need for one day of instruction and includes CCSS Aligned practice. As I would for my own classroom, I prepared more than a substitute might need, just to be safe.
The packet is quite extensive, so it would be best to get it copied, prepped, and ready to go BEFORE an emergency crops up. You could then set the materials aside in a Sub Tub or file drawer so they are ready to go. A colleague could just grab them and set them on your desk when needed.
