During this 4 ½ week unit, my students researched an endangered animal of their choice, wrote an expository paper about the animal, and then integrated their knowledge into a fictional narrative about the animal. You will receive the rubrics for expository and narrative, which were used by students as well as teachers to assess both formatively and summatively. You will also get the notetaking table/guide, a character study map, a narrative story map, and the editing guide we used to edit one anothers' work. My overall goals for both the expository and narrative assignments included paragraph organization, writing fluency, and consideration of audience.

I've been teaching since 2000. I taught sheltered 6th grade in a low-income district near Chicago for 4 years, and 3rd and 4th grade for two years. I also taught 2nd and 3rd grade summer school. I earned National Board Certification in 2008. I currently work as an ESL/ELL specialist teacher for K-5. I do both small group (pull-out) teaching as well as co-teaching in regular classrooms.
