This is the first set of word work centers that accompanies my Engaged Spelling product. It can also work for any spelling program or curriculum that you are using. It is meant to be completed as small group centers but can be utilized in many different ways in your classroom!
Set A includes the following Activities:
This is a card game for building word knowledge. Students are given 8 single letter cards and 3 multi-letter cards to begin. Player 1 tries to make the longest word they can based on their letters. Points are awarded for length. Then next player may add or modify the word with their cards. First to 20 points wins!
2. Words for Ransom
This is a search and sort activity where students are provided 3 categories of words (blends, digraphs, diphthongs. For example: They may have to find words that have oo, ing, and ink. They are to cut words that they find out of magazines and glue them into their respectful places. Then there is a writing activity at the bottom of each Spelling Sort Sheet to activate word knowledge some of the words they found during the activity.

Build-A-Word: 240 single letter cards (including 3 point cards which are bonus. If a student pulls a point card they can lay it down for automatic points won) and 120 multi-letter cards. Plus a blank template for you to add your own.
Words for Ransom: 8 Spelling Sort Sheets (each with 3 word search columns and a writing activity) plus one blank template for you to add your own!
This is my 7th year teaching the 5th grade. I have been lucky enough to work in the most amazing campus. I teach reading in a departmentalized campus in the upper elementary grades and I am enjoying it! Reading is a passion of mine!
