Included here is everything you need to teach a college level course on essay writing: lecture notes, reading assignments, discussions, and writing assignments. I designed and used this packet for teaching English 101 online for a local university. Since most of my students were military and therefore many deployed, the course was designed for easy Internet access to text and research sources. I also have used this course as part of my AP Language face-to-face class with high school juniors. The course is designed as an 8-week "semester" but is easily adaptable to a full-length semester for either high school or college. Essay genres covered in this course include narrative, descriptive, exemplification, process, classification and division, definition, cause and effect, comparison and contrast, argumentation and persuasion, and literary analysis. As an online course, students read �lectures,� read sample essays, discuss these with other students, and then write essays. This course is easily adaptable for independent study as well.
