This bulletin board gives kids a chance to earn extra credit by finding English "stuff" in "real life". It makes them realize that what we study in English is relevant and alive in every day life.
Laminate a large picture of a magnifying glass (I had an art student draw one for me). Post it on a bulletin board, and next to it, the directions for How to Ben an English Sleuth. I post everything the kids bring in with the relevant part highlighted. It may take a while for items to trickle in, but by the end of the year, you will probably run out of room. This idea could be used in any subject area.
I have fiftenn years of teaching experience in a small town, rural school district. I have taught freshmen, sophomores, juniors, honors sophomores and honors juniors.
