This 66-page document contains all of the lesson directions, worksheets, writing assignments, notes, homework, vocabulary, assessments, and everything else you may need to complete a 3 week unit (on 77 minute blocks) on Short Stories. Taught and re-taught to my 9th graders for 8 semesters, this unit has been refined to contain the best activities and lessons for learning to read for literary elements and techniques in the 5 stories, "The Lady or the Tiger?," "The Most Dangerous Game," "The Cask of Amontillado," "The Lottery," and "The Veldt" (from the novel, Illustrated Man). The document includes: lesson/unit directions by day (a total of 14 days) that includes: tips and suggestions for making note-taking interesting; student study guide for note-taking that includes sentence writing prompts; a teacher guide for focusing lectures; worksheets for vocabulary and deriving theme; 3 writing assignments that include story writing with a rubric for "The Lady or the Tiger?," paragraph analysis writing for "The Veldt," and a literary essay with a rubric and writing worksheets for the end of the unit; group games with m&ms for note-taking; a review game; and unit quizzes and unit test. The value of this product is in the complete description of each worksheet, assignment, and guide, as well as directions on how to implement them in your own class. The activity, while it contains games and activities, is very scholarly in its study of reading, writing, and listening for literary elements and techniques. The unit would most definitely fit grades 7-9, but could be used for lower level 10th or 11th grade classes. Please understand that the real success of this product comes from the teacher who buys this product. I LOVED that this packed also included a day by day unit plan!!! Many units on tpt that I have seen in the past do not do this, and it often leaves me wondering how to best organize the materials. Thank You!

In terms of creative writing, no. There is a creative writing project in the unit that has students writing the end to "The Lady or the Tiger?" The focus of the unit is mainly on analyzing literature, as well as a secondary focus on writing analysis of literature. I hope this helps!
