After reading one or several short stories, have your students write this essay. Students are required to connect short stories to a concept that reading allows people to escape reality and explore "other worlds." The 2-page document includes the student directions and grading rubric. This is a great precurser assignment for teaching the NYS Regents as it could easily lead into a more specific Critical Lens Writing Task. As a New York State teacher of 6 years, I have come to truly understand the requirements of modern-day education.
