7th Grade Georgia Performance Standards for Social Studies indicates that students should know about 6 major ethnic groups from the regions studied throughout the 7th Grade year.
These ethnic groups include:
Arab
Persian
Kurd
Bantu
Ashanti
Swahili
This puzzle task was used after a review lesson on all 6 ethnic groups. The same facts were presented in a PowerPoint along with several pictures as visual clues.
Students were then randomly given puzzle pieces and instructed to complete the puzzles based on the facts they had learned. This task is self-correcting in that if the puzzle piece does not fit, the fact pertains to a different ethnic group.
I recommend heavy-duty card stock and lamination in order to use these cards more than once.
You may also find the Major Ethnic Groups in Asia & Africa PowerPoint that accompanies this task in my store.
My students enjoyed this task since it was different from other review lessons we had done previously.
Can't wait to use this with my 7th graders. We will be learning about this in about a month. I think they will really enjoy it. I may have them make mini versions for their interactive Social Studies notebooks, too!
