24 early literacy games
Learning to read does not require an expensive program or costly materials. You can use everyday objects and readily available materials. The games described in this document require little money and are easy to prepare.
The games are centered on four of the five key elements of literacy instruction outlined by the National Reading Panel, phonemic awareness, phonics, reading comprehension, and fluency. The fifth element, vocabulary, is a natural result of a including a variety of texts in reading experiences.
Included with the directions for the games in this document are descriptions of how the activities build skills in each of the five key areas. This document is appropriate for teachers, parents, and caregivers.
