My name is Elaine Shindelar, and this is a math journal designed to be used along with the Everyday Math Unit 1 curriculum for kindergarten. It can also be used as a review for students who are struggling with specific concepts from the unit. It includes days for establishing routines from the beginning of the year, which could be used as writing activities later in the year as well. For my district, our pacing guide includes the differentiation/reinforcement day each Friday, so I also included activities for those days. Usually they are higher level thinking activities, such as a turning a triangle into a new shape. They can also be activities to reinforce or expand upon a topic from a lesson that week. I have been using these as something for the kids to do with my assistant during centers, and I have also done them whole group. If you like them, please check out my other math journals, focusing on word problems and other units of Everyday Math.
